This workshop is designed to assist beginning anglers in learning the essential elements of successful steelhead fishing. This workshop is presented by experienced steelhead anglers who are members of the Sandy River Chapter of the Association of NW Steelheaders in partnership with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Instruction will include: how to select the right rod and reel, how to tie vital knots, popular methods of steelhead fishing such as drift fishing, bobbers and jigs and using spinners and spoons, and instructional time fishing from the bank. A fishing license (one-day, multi-day or annual) with harvest tag and endorsement stamp are necessary for our fishing workshop.
Rods and reels are available for check out for the day and enough tackle for fishing will be provided and yours to keep. Therefore, no equipment is necessary. However, feel free to bring your own equipment should you have it. (If you are planning on bringing your own spinning rod, the average Steelhead/Salmon spinning rod is a 8.5 or 9 foot rod with a medium to medium light action. A matching reel would need to hold up to 150-200 yards of up to 15 pound test line.)
A picnic style lunch, prepared by members of the Sandy River Chapter, Association of NW Steelheaders is provided for you as part of the registration fee, as is a one year introductory membership to the Association of NW Steelheaders. Membership benefits include the opportunity to join a Chapter of the Association of NW Steelheaders. Joining a Chapter is a great way to get to know fellow anglers. The Sandy River Chapter offers continuing learning opportunity through regularly scheduled meetings and fish-a-longs.
The Workshop runs from 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM.
