This workshop will introduce participants to the world of Steelhead fishing with a fly rod. It is designed to teach how to fly fish safely and effectively for steelhead.
We will cover some of the most popular methods used today with an emphasis on fishing with a one handed fly rod (two handed or Spey, will be discussed); how to select the correct types of equipment and assemble various rigs needed for different types of water.
The class will include information about the basic steelhead biology, identifying native vs. hatchery fish, regulations/licensing, and popular rivers for fishing.
Your workshop fee includes: a one year membership to the Association of NW Steelheaders, instruction, use of ODFW equipment, program materials, end tackle, and lunch. We are providing equipment and end tackle, however, if you wish to bring your own, please do so.
A fishing license is required due to the fishing portion of the class. A combined angling harvest tag, one-day angling license with Columbia River Basin Endorsement will cover you for the days fishing activities.
Oregon weather can be unpredictable so please dress accordingly. We will be in an outdoor covered pavilion, dress for the days weather forecast. Items to bring: sturdy footwear, bug repellent, long sleeve shirt, extra clothing, sun block and sun glasses, light backpack, water bottle, rain gear.
